Fourth Annual Navy Soirée Recap
The offseason is in full swing, which explains why we're just now getting around to the Soirée report.
On Saturday, December 7th, the St. Louis Australian Football Club hosted the annual awards night to celebrate players and the club successes of the 2024 season. The American Czech Education Center played host to this year's event as we grew out of our previous space.
Stephen Zenishek and James Heuston served as emcees for the evening's festivities. Starting the night off with our superlatives we had the following winners.
Shankapotamus: Awarded to the player who had an opportunity for an easy goal but ultimately shanked. Aaron Elizondo took home the honor.
A.B.R.: Awarded to the player who embodied the spirit of Always Be Recruiting and brought several fresh faces to the club. Dalton Foster claimed the title with their constant effort on Bumble BFF.
All Shook Up: This award goes to the player who was on the receiving end of the year's biggest hit. Joshua Kandy took home the hardware after having hardware put into their leg after an unfortunate season ending injury at Nationals.
Mad Monday Costume: Our annual Mad Monday Metro is a time for players to show off their creativity in a casual game of football with no rules. Rhiannon Duryea received the nod as they drenched themselves in red paid to pull off the perfect rendition of HIM from Powerpuff Girls
Best on Bar: Pretty self-explanatory here folks. The player who has a second wind after the game and propels further into the night more than any other player. Carlos Nascimento took home the cup with their late-night antics.
Supporter of the Year: This award goes to the supporter who showed their dedication to the club. We are easily bribed with cookies. Lani Glenn made the trip to Austin with us to help cheer us on!
The Stache: Every Nationals we always make the push for folks to have a mustache just for giggles. Dalton Foster took home the award after effortlessly growing a full push broom on their face not one week before Nationals. Rude.
Best Hair: Some hair may be long and luscious. Some hair may be frothy and thick. Stephen Zenishek finally got the award with their curly Kentucky Waterfall.
After a brief intermission and a refill of refreshments at the bar, we were ready to finish the second half of the award night which is for the on-field performances.
Golden Boot: After an impressive performance at Full Forward, Stephen Zenishek took home the honor of the most goals in the 2024 season.
Goal of the Year: For an absolute BOOMING kick from the far side boundary in our game against Golden Gate at Nationals, Joel Friesen took home the glory.
Coaches Award: Awarded to the player who Senior Coach Rich Lozano and Assistant Coach Jim Martin deemed most improved during the season; James Heuston was bestowed the hardware.
The Jim Martin Medal and Clubman of the Year Award: For the player who puts the club before anything and voted on by players, Alex Tajkowski was selected to win.
